The Chain Gang

We have posted this before, but not since 2013.  So, for our newer Stylists: Have you ever wondered how we came up with the names of our various chains?

When Karen and I first started Vessel and were choosing our chains, we numbered them.  This system proved to be less than useful, as it was difficult to remember a chain by the number.  So we decided to name the chains instead.  In considering what names to use, we came upon the idea of honoring the various girls/women in our lives by naming chains after those we love.  I can't believe what a difference it made in being able to remember exactly which chain was which.

I'd like to introduce you to these women and girls.  I think after you get to know the people behind the chain names, it might help you remember too!

In order of age, from youngest to wisest, I'm happy to introduce you to the Gals Behind the Chains:

Kaiya

Kaiya is my 9 year-old granddaughter, and the apple of Grammie's eye! Kaiya swims, dances, skis, plays soccer, and too many other things to list.  She is in a Chinese Immersion school, as is her younger brother Teague.

Ashlyn

Ashlyn is Karen's almost 14 year old niece. She loves to be involved and help with whatever is going on. When she was just 8, she was the youngest person to compete in, and complete her city's sprint-triathlon.

Alexa
Alexa is Karen's 17 year old niece. She loves dance and music. She also excels in school with straight A's and is a great tennis player.

Elodie

Elodie is Karen's 19 year old niece. She is in her first year of college at Brigham Young University, and just received a church mission call to serve in Brazil.  Elodie is an A student, and is an excellent pianist and violinist.

Kristen

Kristen is my youngest daughter.  Kristen is married to Sterling and has an adorable five year old son, Atticus, and a 20 month old daughter, Zoe.  She is currently enjoying life as a stay-at-home mom.  They are moving to Poland for a temporary work assignment for Sterling.

Stephanie

Stephanie is my oldest daughter.  It was hard to find a photo of Steph where she wasn't skiing, hiking, biking or running.  She and her family are extremely active!  In addition to being Kaiya's mom, she's also mom to handsome Teague (7) and wife to Mickel.

Rebecca

Becky is Karen's youngest sister. She holds the current record for the highest sales at a Vessel party. She also loves to travel the world, and is trying to figure out a trip itinerary that will take her to Maine and North Dakota, the only two states she hasn't yet visited.

Laura

Laura is Karen's older sister. She has been so supportive of Vessel, even offering some of her home-space as Vessel warehouse space in the beginning stages of the business. Like the rest of the family, she loves to travel, and has been to all 50 states and many countries around the world.

Jeanne

Jeanne is Karen's mom. She'll be 83 this year and is as active as ever. She still enjoys the annual family camping trip, and she shows her love everyday to her five daughters and 13 grandchildren.

We love and admire these people so much.  They inspire us to create the best company possible.  They support us and love us, and we couldn't possibly have made it without them.

And don't worry ... we have plenty of other gals in our lives for future product names!

Love, Susan

Boost Your Holiday Sales

by Tracy Ralph, National Sales Director

It's the Holiday Shopping Season ... so how do you get holiday shoppers to buy from YOU?

Here are some ideas to try:

Holiday Mystery Hostess Party!
Kick off the shopping season by having a Holiday Mystery Hostess Party at your home! Make sure you have plenty of holiday-themed colors/products available for them to see and touch, along other holiday gift ideas! Set up a table with gift ideas, and then another one for  stocking stuffers (ScentSpheres, Charms, Ribbon/Cord Necklaces, etc.).  Make sure you set them up in a festive holiday display to get your guests into the holiday spirit.  Play holiday music in the background and serve holiday-themed refreshments.  On your invitations state "This is a Holiday Mystery Hostess party! Everyone who attends gets one entry.  For each guest you bring, you earn another entry!  For every $20 you spend, you get another entry!  And for every party you book at this party, you will get another THREE entries!  At the end of the party we will draw a name...the winner then becomes the Party Host. The winning Host earns all of the FREE Host rewards for this party!" It's a great way to gear Customers up for the holiday season - and a great way for you to get sales and party bookings.

Get yourself some Santa Sales Helpers!
Give your friends and family members business cards and catalogs, and have them gather orders for you from their circle of friends, co-workers and family. (This works really well for those who don't want to host a party.)  Then reward them with FREE thank-you "helper's  gift(s)" ...our Host Rewards.

Visit businesses where men typically work.
Tire companies, Oil Change companies, etc.  Offer to be their personal Christmas shopper. They just order, and you will deliver the wrapped present.  All they need to do is add a card.  Men love this!  No more running around on Christmas Eve frantically looking for a gift.

Contact ALL past party Hosts and Customers
Let them know about our Holiday Specials (From October through December receive a 15% DISCOUNT on each of these Locket and Chain sets. With seven beautiful finishes to choose from, you're sure to find the perfect gift for everyone on your list. When your order is $50 or more, you also receive FREE SHIPPING.)  Make sure you tell potential Hosts to SAVE their hard earned money and earn their GIFTS for free with a party!  Offer Customers FREE gifts with purchases, or take advantage of the great Holiday Specials.  Most people hate fighting the mall crowds!

Contact all the Senior Citizens and/or shut-ins in your town/city.
It's generally hard for them to GET OUT and do holiday shopping.  Offer them your personalized service. Show them your catalogs....you can even offer gift wrapping service to them.  Many seniors get depressed at this time of year because they are not able to get out like they want to.  They can be a GREAT source of extra business for you.  You are offering a needed service to them ... and they appreciate the companionship too!

Holiday Themed Home Parties
Offer a themed party to your holiday Hosts! A  Cookie Exchange, Hot Chocolate Bar, and an Ugly Sweater Contest are just a few fun ideas.  People love these type of parties.

Make it your mission to leave your contact info and Vessel information with everyone you meet or see this holiday season
Maybe they don't need your services right now....but in the future when they do, they will know who to contact!

Set up one-on-ones for personal shopping.
These are great to let them see Vessel in person.  You will be building a relationship with the Customer for future business.

There are a lot of ways to make this holiday shopping season fun and profitable! Be creative!  Don't offer the same old thing as everyone else!  Do your own FUN and creative parties.

It's Time to Go Full Throttle!

by: Dioni Morales, Director of Stylist Services

I'm sure that even if you're not an airplane pilot, you still know enough to appreciate the fact that for an airplane to get off the ground it needs to go full throttle.  It cannot take off at 50%, 75%, even at 90% ... it has to be at 100%!  Only then do we get to enjoy the calmness of flying at an altitude of 30,000 plus miles.

It's time to take your Vessel business to Full Throttle... to 100%!

The way you do that is by implementing "Massive Action."

So what is Massive Action? Let me start by describing four different degrees of action:

1. Doing nothing.

2. Being a Retreater - afraid of failing, fear of success.

3. Normal - i.e., whatever action the "norm" for society is.  While this is what creates the average, middle class existence, it is a very dangerous mentality.

And then there is ....

4. Massive Action -  being relentless in what you do.

The top earners in this industry know how to use Massive Action.  They probably go into this mode at least once or twice a year.  I heard one of them say that if you go all out for 90 days, there is no way that you WON'T be successful.

The first step to going into Massive Action is to develop an Action Plan for the next 90 days:
  • Make the decision.  Set your goals.  Put them in writing.
  • Talk to your family and loved ones.  Get them involved in the plan. Let them know of the sacrifices you will make as a family in the next 90 days in order to reach your goals.
  • Change your daily actions.  You will never change your life until you change what you do daily.
  • If you do your Vessel business on a full-time basis, you should plan on working 16 hours a day.  If you do it part-time, you should plan on putting in 8 hours a day for the next 90 days.  YES, it is a big commitment.  That is why it is called a Massive Action.
  • Spend your time on income-producing activities: prospecting, promoting, doing parties, presenting the Vessel opportunity, following up, etc.

Stylists..... THIS is the perfect time to go into Massive Action.  Vessel has put MANY promotions into place which are designed to motivate you, and to help you earn MORE!

Make the decision today!  Don't wait one more day.  I think you will be amazed at what will happen in 90 days if you fully commit to Massive Action.  That's when you will be able to enjoy the view at 30,000 miles.  That's when, as Pocahontas said, "You will see things you never knew you never knew."

The More you Learn, The More You Earn

by Tracy Ralph, National Sales Director

If you really want to get ahead in this business, then you need to be a sponge! You need to be learning all the time.

When I say learning, I mean actively, consciously learning and putting what you have learned into ACTION.

Here are some things to consider in your quest for learning opportunities:

Things you are doing in the business might just need a tweak
Some things will work for you, some won’t, but you don’t know until you try!  Often things that didn’t work for you in the beginning will later, with a tweak.  And if it worked for someone else, then we know it can work – it might just need to be modified for your personality.

Learning is EVERYWHERE
Did you know that a lot of educational opportunities are already offered by Vessel Scents of Style?  Are you taking advantage of  the training calls Vessel offers every Wednesday night?  Have you reached out for personal one-on-one coaching/training calls?   Have you watched and truly studied the Party Presentation on the Vessel website?  We offer several options to help you succeed in this business.

Some of you will need to go out and find educational materials (online workshops, reading books, subscribing to blogs and forums, reading articles etc.).  Some of these materials will be free, some won’t.  But if you look around at the successful people in Vessel and in your life, you will see they invest both time and money in their own education.

Some of your learning opportunities will be informal, and possibly from surprising sources – a new consultant has a fantastic idea or suggestion you haven’t thought of, you get a great idea right before you drift off to sleep, your favorite TV program has something in the storyline that makes a difference to you, a friend or stylist posts an inspirational video on FaceBook, – and the list goes on and on.

Don’t miss the "Aha Moments"
If you are anything like me, an "aha moment" can pass by and be very quickly forgotten.  Why not create a system for capturing these ideas?  I have a notebook (actually, I have filled several now!), and any good idea I hear, read about or think of goes in there.

Every now and then, I sit down and go through my notebook of ideas.  I am always amazed at the great thoughts and ideas I have had in the past that I have forgotten about, or not acted upon.   There are also ideas in there that at the time I wasn’t ready for, or couldn’t implement at the time.  Going through the notes again means that I get refreshed and can continually be moving onward and upwards. It also gets me excited all over again!

The point is that by being constantly on the lookout for learning opportunities, we keep our WHY and our Goals in front of us.  This business is like any other business ... there is a learning curve.  But once we have started the learning process, our whole business changes and takes off in a direction for success.

Remember ... the more you learn, the more you earn!

Check out Vessel's new products, available now!

We are especially excited to bring out some products and fragrances for men.  Our guys have been asking for something for awhile now.  The men in your life will love the thicker braided GENUINE LEATHER necklace, especially with the Arrowhead Locket.  And how about the GENUINE LEATHER bracelet with the Geometric Locket?  Ladies, you can get the Floral for a more feminine look.  And note the NEW ScentSphere shapes, uniquely designed for the Bracelet Lockets.

The Cross Locket is also something that's been on the wish list for awhile, from quite a few people.

And the Scarf Slide (which is a 3 piece set) is something that Karen's wanted to do since we first started on the Vessel path.  We finally have it!

Now you can think of Vessel for ALL the people on your Christmas list!

2015 Vessel Convention

Last week we held our first Annual Convention in Salt Lake City.  Our theme was "Ready, Set, Grow!"  Though intimate in size, our gathering was HUGE in terms of ideas, fun, camaraderie, networking, training, recognition and more fun!  Stylists came from as far away as southern Florida.  We may have been strangers when Convention started, but I think it's fair to say that we all formed some truly great friendships.  We started with a "get to know you" lunch on Friday.

Convention participants were greeted in Friday's meeting with a goody bag, and a pair of gardening gloves ... to help everyone get "Ready."

The highlight of the day was definitely Tracy Ralph's mock party.  If you haven't seen this in person, you really must make a plan to attend next year's Convention (details to be announced).  Tracy demonstrated to Stylists that, done properly, a party will yield not only sales, but also future bookings and recruits.  We call this the Power of the Party.  Live parties are the fuel your Vessel business needs in order to grow and thrive.

We also had plenty of raffle prize drawings, and those who could answer some of Dioni Morales' Compensation Plan questions also got prizes - everything from purple notepads to Vessel jewelry sets - INCLUDING the new products.
Excitement was in the air the following morning, for everyone had a suspicion that there MIGHT be something new under those purple cloths ...

And sure enough, there WERE a few new additions to the Vessel line.

Because the attendees at Convention were there, they were able to purchase new products before the official launch, which will be in the couple of weeks.  So ... be sure to watch this space, or Facebook, or your email for the official announcement of new products.  The Stylists at Convention were wowed, and we think you will be as well!

Participants found a garden spade at their places on Saturday morning, to help them get "Set."  In addition to the MANY raffle prizes, on-time drawings and Compensation Plan Questions prizes, Tracy went into detail about the facets of the home party.  She provided great information on what to say to get bookings, what to say to get new recruits, and how to properly coach your hosts to ensure great parties.
After lunch, we had MORE prize drawings (there were lots of prizes ... did you pick up on that?).  Participants also found a garden pot with soil and seeds, a symbol of being ready to "Grow!"  She also had some very welcome information on avoiding postponements and cancellations, overcoming objections (who doesn't need help with that?), how to properly use Facebook as a tool, and inviting customers to become hosts.
We also announced some awesome fall promotions, including our new Fast Start program that rewards new Stylists for having a strong start with their Vessel business:
Check the Facebook page for additional promotions coming up this Fall!
We also announced a new Leadership Conference, open to everyone who reaches the Gold Stylist rank by March 2016.  Watch for additional details coming soon.
After an information-packed couple of days, we all got together for a photo:
From L-R, back row: Founder Karen Carter, Amberlyn Prior, Jolene Abegglen, Shirley Meyers, Joyce Darr, Founder Susan Harward, Judy Morgan, Tracy Ralph, Dioni Morales
Front row: Milagros (Millie) Arroyo, Sarah Dees, Tara Gitt, Beverly Kimkowski

Later that night we had a fabulous dinner, with entertainment by Madilyn Paige.  Madilyn is a very talented and beautiful young singer who was recently on the television show "The Voice" and made it to the top 20.  If you're not familiar with Madilyn's work, check it out so you can understand just how fortunate we were to see her perform.

After dinner, we were pleased to honor some of our Stylists:

Sarah Dees, Vessel's first Stylist

Shirley Meyers, winner of the "Go Getter" award.

Tara Gitt, Sapphire Director, "Most Recruits 2015"

Beverly Kimkowski, "Highest Average Monthly Sales 2015"

Milagros (Millie) Arroyo, Sapphire Director

Tara Gitt, Sapphire Director

As you can see, we stuffed a lot of information, prizes, fun and exciting announcements into this Convention.  Convention is something you absolutely DON'T want to miss!  By attending Convention, you will be the first to hear about and take advantage of new products and fabulous promotions.  The networking and team spirit you will feel are worth every bit of effort you put in to be in attendance.  We hope to see YOU there next year!

To Your Success!

Susan
