Go Fishing for Business!
If you are looking for new bookings or possible recruits, there are lots of things you can do – and one of them is to make sure you stay home as little as possible!
Yes, there are things you have to do from your home office (making calls for example), but there are tasks that you can just as easily do in a public place - for example in a coffee shop.
Filling in order forms, writing thank-you notes to your hostesses, and many other jobs can be done from the comfort of a "Starbucks" near you, and in an area where some of your potential customers are likely to be.
These days with a small computer or tablet (it’s small so it leaves plenty of space on the table for other things like your coffee and bagel) and an Internet connection, you can virtually work anywhere. Why would you stay home, when you could be among people?
It’s just like fishing!
If you’ve ever been fishing, you know that you put some bait on the hook, drop it in the water, and wait. Sometimes you only get nibbles, sometimes you catch a fish – and sometimes you go home empty handed.
As you work in the coffee shop, you will have brochures and other literature on the table in plain view (to refer to as you work) so that people who walk past will notice it (see how it’s like fishing?). As crazy as it may sound, I have picked up bookings and recruits this way! The waitresses are often of surprising help.
I’ve had people come up to me and say “I’ve been looking for a consultant from your company! How amazing you are just sitting here!”
Even if you don’t get any nibbles you’ll still have done your work (more efficiently and quickly than if you were at home, by the way), had a nice coffee or Diet Coke, and - bonus! - you got dressed and out of the house.
There are no down sides to this – and plenty of possible up sides!
Make this part of your weekly routine. It’s effortless! And, after all, fishing is a very relaxing pastime.
